Why this combination
Why SS 304L in plates
Vessel shells, heads and nozzles are heavily welded, often with multiple passes on thick plate. Every pass reheats the surrounding metal; with SS 304L those zones stay free of harmful carbides.
Dual-certified SS 304/304L plate is the common stock item. It meets ASME Section VIII allowable stresses for SS 304 while satisfying a SS 304L material requirement.
