Pipe & Tube Weight Calculator

Calculate pipe and tube weight per metre and total weight for any OD and wall thickness, NPS and schedule, in stainless steel, nickel alloys, carbon steel, titanium and more.

Pipe & Tube Weight Calculator

How it works

Weight per metre = π × (OD − WT) × WT × density / 1000, with OD and WT in mm and density in g/cm³.

Pipe cross-section showing outside diameter and wall thickness used in the weight formula Engineering drawing showing outside diameter 60.33 mm and wall thickness 3.91 mm (OD 60.33 WT 3.91). Wall thickness is exaggerated for clarity. OD 60.33 mm WT 3.91 mm NPS 2SCH 40S OD 60.33 WT 3.91
The two dimensions the calculator needs: outside diameter and wall thickness (NPS 2 Sch 40S shown).

Frequently asked questions

Is this tool free to use?

Yes. All Bright Tubes tools are free and run in your browser, and nothing you enter is stored.

Which densities are used?

Typical densities for each grade from our grade database, for example 7.85 g/cm³ for carbon steel, about 8.0 for austenitic stainless steel and 4.51 for CP titanium.

Is this calculator accurate enough for purchasing?

It gives theoretical values from nominal dimensions and typical density. Actual weights vary within manufacturing tolerances, so use them for estimates, not for design or invoicing.
