What is IS 3589 Steel Pipes?
Quick answer
- Standard
- IS 3589
- Product form
- Pipes
- Typical uses
- Water transmission mains; Sewage and effluent lines
IS 3589 covers larger-diameter steel pipes for water mains, gas lines, sewage and slurry transport. Pipes are made seamless, ERW or submerged-arc welded (spiral or longitudinal) in three strength grades, Fe 330, Fe 410 and Fe 450, where the number is the minimum tensile strength in MPa.
Pipes are typically supplied bare, or with internal cement-mortar lining and external coatings (coal tar, epoxy, 3LPE), depending on the project. Wall thickness is chosen from the working pressure, diameter and laying conditions.
Key characteristics
- OD 168.3–2,540 mm
- Grades Fe 330, Fe 410, Fe 450
- ERW, SAW (spiral or longitudinal) or seamless
- Lined and coated options
