In short: since 1 June 2026, steel of Indian origin can enter Oman duty-free under the India–Oman CEPA, if it meets the rules of origin. Bright Tubes ships stainless, duplex, carbon and Cr-Mo pipe, fittings and flanges to Sohar, Duqm and Salalah, and marks every line with its origin so you know what qualifies.
Trade agreement
The CEPA turns origin into a price factor. The same SS 316L pipe can land at a different cost depending on where it was melted.
Indian steel products paid Oman's standard import duty.[4]
Oman removes duty on 98.08% of tariff lines, covering 99.38% of Indian exports by value.[2][3]
Only goods meeting the CEPA rules of origin, with a valid certificate, get zero duty. We flag each line as Indian origin or not.

Turnarounds
Refinery and plant turnarounds in Oman run to fixed dates. The risk is never the stock items; it's the one heavy-wall Cr-Mo spool or nickel alloy fitting that needs mill time. Sending the list early is the single biggest factor in an on-time turnaround.

Oman buyer questions
From 1 June 2026, the India–Oman CEPA is in force.[1] Oman committed to zero duty on 98% of its tariff lines, and analysts report that its roughly 5% duty on Indian steel products is eliminated.[2][4] To claim it, the goods must meet the CEPA rules of origin and travel with a valid certificate of origin.
No. Preference applies to goods that originate in India under the agreement's rules. Material we buy from mills outside India does not qualify even if it ships from India. We mark origin line by line on the quotation so you know what to expect at Sohar or Duqm.
Sohar for sites in the north and around Muscat, Duqm for the refinery and the special economic zone, and Salalah for Dhofar. Shipping to the nearest port saves a long truck run.
Items in ready stock are dispatched after inspection and documentation. For a planned turnaround, send the list early so mill items can be produced in time; we confirm lead times on the quotation.
