IS 2062 is India's main standard for hot-rolled medium- and high-tensile structural steel. Grade E250 has a minimum yield of 250 MPa and tensile strength of 410 MPa (for thinner sections). Quality sub-grades (A, BR, B0, C) define impact testing: BR is tested at room temperature, B0 at 0 °C and C at −20 °C.
E250 is the everyday structural grade, used for most beams, channels, angles and plates. Sections are rolled to IS 808 dimensions.
Key characteristics
- Minimum yield 250 MPa
- Sub-grades A, BR, B0, C for impact requirements
- Plates, coils and IS 808 sections
- Weldable structural steel

How is IS 2062 E250 welded and fabricated?
Readily weldable; heavier sections and higher carbon equivalents need preheat.
Always follow a qualified welding procedure (for example ASME Section IX) and the filler-metal recommendations for IS 2062 E250. Verify incoming material by PMI and check the mill test certificate against the specification.
Which IS 2062 E250 products do we supply?
IS 2062 E250 is available in 7 product forms, from ready stock or mill-sourced to your specification, with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates (3.2 with third-party inspection on request).
IS 2062 E250 CoilsIS 2062Specification & sizes
How it's madeHot-rolled coil (HRC) comes from the hot-strip mill. Cold-rolled coil (CRC) is further reduced on a cold mill, then annealed and pickled or bright annealed, and skin-passed. Slitting lines cut master coils into narrow strips to the width you order.
