2–3% molybdenum for chloride pitting resistancePREN about 23–25 against 18–20 for 304Non-magnetic when annealedWidely available in every product form

Plate in coastal plants and chemical storage faces salt air and splash or acidic contents. 316's molybdenum slows pitting and crevice attack under deposits and gaskets.

For heavy welded fabrication in corrosive service, specify dual SS 316/316L plate so weld zones stay sound.
