Carbon 0.030% max for weld-zone corrosion resistance2–3% molybdenum for chloride pitting resistanceCommonly dual-certified SS 316/316LDefault choice for welded pharma, chemical and marine equipment

Hygienic fittings, ferrules and valve bodies are machined from 316L bar so they match the tube they weld to.

For high-strength shafts, duplex bar gives about twice the yield strength with better chloride resistance.
