Architects specify SS 316 sheet near the coast because tea-staining and pitting show far less than on SS 304. Smooth finishes (BA, fine No. 4) further improve appearance retention.

For chemical cabinets and lab furniture, SS 316 resists the acids and cleaning agents that mark SS 304.
