SS 304 Stainless Steel Flanges

In short: SS 304 stainless flanges are forged to ASTM A182 F304 in weld-neck, slip-on, blind, socket-weld, lap-joint and threaded types, to ASME B16.5 and B16.47 dimensions in Class 150 to 2500.

Why this combination

Why SS 304 in flanges

Balanced corrosion resistance, formability and costNon-magnetic when annealedExcellent weldability and deep drawingTough down to cryogenic temperatures

Flanges are where a piping system gets its pressure rating: an F304 flange's rating comes from ASME B16.5 tables for its class and temperature. SS 304 flanges are used on water, food and general chemical lines without significant chlorides.

For welded joints in corrosive service, F304L avoids sensitisation; dual F304/F304L flanges are common. Bolting is usually B8 or B7, depending on temperature and corrosion.

Questions

About SS 304 flanges

What bolting is used with SS 304 flanges?

Typically ASTM A193 B8 stainless or B7 alloy studs with matching A194 nuts, chosen by temperature, corrosion and gasket type.

What pressure classes are SS 304 flanges made in?

ASME Class 150, 300, 600, 900, 1500 and 2500, with ratings that decrease as temperature rises.
