Inconel Alloys
Nickel-chromium alloys that resist oxidation, carburisation and chloride stress corrosion cracking, from high-temperature furnace parts to seawater and chemical service.
Inconel grades
- Inconel 600Inconel 600 (Alloy 600, UNS N06600) is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy with excellent resistance to oxidation, carburisation and chloride stress corrosion cracking, from cryogenic temperatures to about 1,100 °C.
- Inconel 601Inconel 601 (Alloy 601, UNS N06601) is a nickel-chromium alloy with an aluminium addition for outstanding resistance to high-temperature oxidation and scaling, up to about 1,200 °C.
- Inconel 625Inconel 625 (Alloy 625, UNS N06625) is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-niobium alloy with high strength and outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride SCC, from cryogenic temperatures to about 980 °C.
- Inconel 718Inconel 718 (Alloy 718, UNS N07718) is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-chromium-iron alloy with very high yield, tensile and creep-rupture strength up to about 650 °C.
Inconel grades compared
| Grade | UNS | Density | Key trait | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Inconel 600 | N06600 | 8.47 g/cm³ | ≥ 72% nickel: immune to chloride SCC | Furnace muffles, retorts and trays |
| Inconel 601 | N06601 | 8.11 g/cm³ | Aluminium addition for adherent oxide scale | Radiant tubes and furnace muffles |
| Inconel 625 | N06625 | 8.44 g/cm³ | High strength without age hardening | Seawater piping and offshore systems |
| Inconel 718 | N07718 | 8.19 g/cm³ | Age-hardenable: yield strength above 1,000 MPa | Aero-engine discs, shafts and casings |
